Dr. Andrew Lumsdaine

Dr. Andrew Lumsdaine is the Chief Scientist at the Northwest Institute for Advanced Computing at the University of Washington. He is also a UW-PNNL Distinguished Faculty Fellow in the Applied Mathematics, Computing, and Data Division at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Dr. Lumsdaine is an internationally recognized expert in high-performance computing (HPC) and holds 15 patents in this field, and has published 623 papers with over 22,000 citations. He has made important contributions to multiple standardization efforts including the MPI specification, the C++ programming language, and the Graph 500. Dr. Lumsdaine has attracted significant funding from both Government agencies and the private sector with NSF funding alone totaling over $8.2 million. He recently received a $7 million grant from DARPA on graph processing software that will help achieve 1,000 times improvement in data processing efficiency. This will have a major impact on areas such as cybersecurity, social media analysis, and infrastructure modeling.
